One key decision made during the extensive production of the Star Wars sequels allowed a brand-new era to spawn in the franchise, as highlighted by one of the series' central filmmakers of late: Dave Filoni. After the culmination of the prequel trilogy, many still viewed Return of the Jedi as the definitive ending of the Star Wars franchise.
