Summary
- The Jedi Temple on Coruscant is built on a dark side shrine, which has led to speculation about the Jedi's relationship with the dark side.
- Contrary to popular belief, the dark side shrine on Coruscant pre-dates the Sith, leaving its true creators a mystery.
- The inclusion of Coruscant on the Nightsister star map suggests that the Nightsisters may have had a connection to the planet and possibly had their own empire in ancient times.
As one of Star Wars' most central planets, Coruscant has plenty of well-known action and just as many hidden secrets, including a dark side mystery that may link to the Nightsisters of Dathomir as featured in the Ahsoka series. While the Nightsisters aren't technically of the Sith, they do wield the dark side as a part of their magick, something they have done since the ancient days of the galaxy. Nightsisters were revealed to have quite a few temples not just across the galaxy, but also within other galaxies, as seen on Peridea in Ahsoka. With their history dating back to the most ancient times of the Star Wars galaxy, the Nightsisters have established themselves on many surprising planets in the past.
Similarly to the Nightsisters, the Jedi and the Sith alike both had temples and shrines spread throughout the galaxy, scattered across various planets. The Jedi most notably had their main temple on Coruscant, but also had temples on planets such as Lothal, Ahch-To, and Batuu. One of the Sith's greatest was Malachor, a place visited in the animated Star Wars Rebels series that proved to have plenty of influence and knowledge for those who desired to learn more of the ways of the dark side. There is, however, another notable shrine of the dark side, and it's very close to what is most often considered to be the home of the Jedi Order.
The Jedi Temple Is Built On A Dark Side Shrine The Jedi Temple on Coruscant is built upon a dark side shrine, bringing it very close to the Jedi's central heart of the Order. This shrine has long since been believed to belong to the Sith, due to the fact it's dedicated to the dark side of the Force. With Palpatine also having Coruscant as his home base during his time as a senator and the Chancellor before he became the Emperor, this also seemed to make the most sense, especially with the Jedi sensing the dark side clouding their side of the Force.
It stands to reason, however, that the Jedi likely would not have wanted to build their foundation on a shrine belonging to the Sith, if that's what they surmised it to be. It may have been a way for the Jedi to somewhat reclaim that dark side energy for the light side and to create perfect balance in the Force, but it still would have been a risky move for the Jedi to take. There are also some more substantial ideas that challenge this belief, many of which have recently come to the surface regarding the true history of this shrine.
