Baylan Skoll will prove to be more important to Ahsoka season 2’s narrative than Grand Admiral Thrawn. Ahsoka season 1 was all about preventing Grand Admiral Thrawn’s return to Star Wars’ prime galaxy. The formerly missing Jedi Ezra Bridger had defeated Thrawn at the Battle of Lothal in the Star Wars Rebels series finale, dealing a decisive blow to the Empire’s power structure and paving the way for the Rebel Alliance’s eventual victory at the Battle of Endor. With the Imperial Remnant trying to regain a foothold in the galaxy while the New Republic has been attempting to build a better future, it was more important than ever that Grand Admiral Thrawn be stopped.
Unfortunately, as the Ahsoka finale revealed, Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren, and Ezra were unable to prevent Thrawn from returning to Star Wars’ prime galaxy, a mistake that set up the central conflict for the Disney+ corner of the Star Wars timeline. Luckily, Ezra returned with Thrawn, and he can thus warn the New Republic of the Admiral’s plans, but there’s no denying that Thrawn is incredibly dangerous. However, Thrawn wasn’t the only villain in the Ahsoka show – the late Ray Stevenson’s Baylan Skoll was an unnervingly welcome new addition to the Star Wars universe, and his character will undoubtedly become even more vital in Ahsoka season 2 should the series be renewed.
Grand Admiral Thrawn Was The Greatest Villain Of Ahsoka Season 1 Despite appearing in merely three of Ahsoka’s eight episodes, Lars Mikkelsen’s live-action portrayal of Grand Admiral Thrawn was as quietly intimidating and tactically formidable as the character had previously proven himself to be in Star Wars Rebels. Thrawn managing to convince Peridea’s Great Mothers to aid him in his quest to return home, his ability to survive and even thrive on such a remote planet, and the chilling devotion his remaining Night Troopers demonstrated all made Thrawn seem even more threatening than ever before. Thrawn was cold and calculating, anticipating everyone’s moves – even Ahsoka’s. If anyone can bring the Imperial Remnant together again, it’s Thrawn.
