It increasingly seems as though Mark Hamill has finished his time as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, but there is still one story of the Jedi Master that needs to be told. Recent statements from Mark Hamill appear to imply he doesn't expect to play Luke Skywalker again – at least not in any significant role. He doesn't anticipate returning as a Force ghost in Rey's New Jedi Order movie, nor does he believe he should play a major role in Lucasfilm's plans in The Mandalorian era.
Lucasfilm brought Hamill back in The Mandalorian season 2 and The Book of Boba Fett through innovative deepfake technology, and Hamill has been impressed with the process. Still, he's recently ruled out the prospect of extended scenes; "People say, 'Oh, now you're going to be able to do a whole series of Luke post-Return of the Jedi.'" Hamill observed in one interview. "I said, 'I don't think so.' First of all, they don't need to tell those stories, but if they do, they could get an age-appropriate actor." Naturally, most attention has focused on Hamill's support for a recast Luke Skywalker, but it's equally interesting to note he believes there are no more stories to be told. There, though, he's wrong; one important part of the Skywalker saga involving Luke has yet to be explored in any medium.
