Star Wars’ most famous purge is surely the mass murder of the Jedi in Order 66, but a new comic reveals that the Jedi’s efforts to destroy the Sith in the past involved a purge of something entirely different. The Jedi’s own purge might not have been of people, but it might not have been entirely morally righteous either.
Star Wars (2020) #35 by Charles Soule, Madibek Musabekov, Rachelle Rosenberg and Clayton Cowles reveals that in the distant past, the Jedi went on a purge of Sith artifacts, specifically red lightsabers imbued with the dark side. In order to do this, they needed to heal the red kyber crystals at the heart of these lighstabers. The Jedi sought the help of the Fallanassi, a religious order who view the Force as a "sea," with the light and dark side as a "White Current" and a "Dark Tide," respectively. The issue reveals that this process was done en-masse after the first major fall of the Sith to prevent their resurgence in power. However, with the destruction of the Jedi Order and the Fallanassi both, the process was mostly lost to time until now.
