Superweapons have been a part of the Star Wars franchise since its 1977 debut, with various works in the canon and Legends continuities adding even more to the franchise’s lore. The first Death Star battle station and its replacement, the Death Star II, play major roles in the original Star Wars trilogy, providing the rebel heroes with a seemingly insurmountable threat to overcome while demonstrating the depravity of the Galactic Empire. Canon and Legends lore show, however, that throughout the galaxy’s history, there have been superweapons that dwarf the destructive power of even the Death Stars.
In both continuities, the Death Stars are only the beginning of the galaxy’s technological horrors. In canon, the Galactic Empire’s successor states, the First Order, Sith Eternal, and Final Order, developed and refined the Empire’s projects into more powerful and mobile weapons. In Legends, the Empire’s Maw Installation was filled with nightmarish superweapons, with many joining the arsenal of the undead Palpatine’s Dark Empire. Of course, both continuities also prove that the Sith have used the dark side itself to create superweapons. Of all the superweapons in both Star Wars timelines, the following 11 are the deadliest.
