Summary
- One Lothal Jedii parable reflects on the symbolism of light, dark, and balance, with mountains representing light and the ocean representing darkness.
- The tale suggests that the ancient Jedi did not solely serve the light side, but saw themselves as agents of balance, which became a third aspect of the Force.
- The Lothal parable subtly references the Jedi logo itself, indicating that the traditional symbol represents the Jedi as standing in the center, striking from a place of balance between light and dark.
One beautiful new Star Wars story hints at a deeper meaning to the Jedi Order logo – one that points to their original purpose and role. The origin of the Jedi Order is shrouded in mystery, in large part because so many historical records have been destroyed by the Sith. The Jedi are known to have been founded roughly 25,000 years ago, and they spread across the galaxy, using the Force to locate planets rich in the Force – worlds such as Ilum, Tython, and Lothal.
Lothal, of course, was the main planet in Star Wars Rebels – the homeworld of Ezra Bridger. Site of an ancient Jedi Temple, one that possibly dates back to the early days of the order itself, Lothal's ancient past is something of a mystery. The Jedii appear to have established this temple long before Lothal was ever settled, and there's some evidence it was used to train younglings. Lothal contains a Force vergence, one ideally suited to testing a prospective Padawan's attachments. Surprisingly, an ancient tale told at the Lothal temple – abandoned by the time settlers arrived – may hint at deep secrets of the ancient Jedii Order, and even reinterpret the Jedi logo.
