Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Star Wars #35One of the most iconic aspects of Star Wars lore are the lightsabers wielded by Jedi and Sith alike, just as the wizards of the world of Harry Potter wield their famous wands. A fan-favorite weapon used by such famous characters as Darth Vader or Yoda, these ancient tools focus a warrior’s connection to the Force and make a deadly opponent out of anyone who wields them. But to the potential surprise of some fans, the lightsaber actually has a pretty big say in who gets to use it.
Star Wars #35 by Chares Soule, Madibek, Musabekov, and Rachelle Rosenberg finds Luke Skywalker on a quest to repair his broken lightsaber on the Imperial-occupied world of Christophsis. Meeting with an expert in kyber crystals, the mineral that acts as the heart of a lightsaber, Luke learns more than he ever anticipated. As they discuss the damage done to Luke’s lightsaber, the scientist named Cuata essentially tells him that a lightsaber and its wielder must choose each other – not unlike the almost symbiotic relationship between a wand and its wizard in the Harry Potter franchise.
