Rey’s New Jedi Order will have a hard time constructing lightsabers – but the villains in Ahsoka may already prove how they can overcome this issue. One of three confirmed upcoming Star Wars movies, Rey’s New Jedi Order film will take place roughly 15 years after her victory over Palpatine and the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Exploring Rey’s attempt to rebuild the Jedi Order, there will no doubt be many obstacles for her to work through– after all, one of her mentors, Luke Skywalker, had a difficult time with the same monumental task – but there is one more obvious and immediate issue that Rey will need to deal with.
Lightsabers have been the weapon of the Jedi for eons – they are an extension of who they are, reflecting their personalities, temperaments, and their affiliation with the Force. At the end of The Rise of Skywalker, Rey revealed her unique yellow lightsaber, after having used Anakin Skywalker and Leia Organa’s lightsabers previously. Forging a lightsaber is a rite of passage for all Jedi, and it will certainly be part of the traditions of Rey’s New Jedi Order as well, but it may be hard for them to find one key component of creating the weapons: kyber crystals.
