The lightsaber combat in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is some of the best ever featured in a Star Wars game, a factor which may just be more important than its story. Gameplay and story are often pitted against each other, and much of the time, gameplay wins out because interactivity is at the center of the medium. But it's more complex than that, and Jedi: Survivor is the perfect title to illustrate the interplay between these two elements.

Respawn Entertainment founder Vince Zampella said of Jedi: Survivor, “The story can be great, and it has to be great, especially in Star Wars, right? But if it doesn't feel good, who cares?” This may seem controversial to some, especially those heavily invested in the story being told with Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor. It’s important to note, however, that it isn’t a dig at the game. Rather, it’s simply the reality of video games and the medium of interactive entertainment. Furthermore, it touches on what makes games unique compared to movies and other media.
