Summary
- The lava boat in The Mandalorian season 1 finale defies logic, as the characters should have been burned by the boiling gases released by the lava.
- Grogu's origin story remains a mystery, with no clear explanation as to why he was hidden on Arvala-7 and why he was so valuable.
- The bounty hunters in the series inexplicably kept their tracking fobs for Grogu even after he was rescued, which seems unrealistic and convenient for the plot.
Despite being one of Star Wars' very best and most historic projects to date, The Mandalorian season 1 still has some harsh realities that become apparent upon re-watching, four years later. The Mandalorian kicked off both the wave of Star Wars live-action TV shows and Disney+ original TV shows, leaving behind a historic legacy and setting an important precedent for everything that's come after it. The series also introduced two beloved characters to the galaxy, Pedro Pascal's Din Djarin and Grogu, or "Baby Yoda." The importance of The Mandalorian season 1 and its highly acclaimed reception can never be changed, but that certainly doesn't mean it didn't have some flaws.
Revisiting The Mandalorian season 1 four years after its premiere reveals some unanswered questions and other unexplained moments that don't make much sense in retrospect. Some can be considered moments that were included simply for the advancement and ease of the plot, while others are ideas that still haven't been clarified even after 3.5 seasons of the series being released. While they don't necessarily take anything away from the story, these harsh realities are still present, and there are at least 12 of them.

Lava is a conduit, and so it releases boiling gases into the air directly above. This means that even if the group had a boat dense enough not to melt, the gases still should have burned them all badly, and yet it never did. Given that this is Star Wars, though, and Anakin and Obi-Wan also didn't melt during their battle on Mustafar (at least, one of them didn't), then it becomes a suspended belief for this particular moment.
11 Grogu's Origin Story Still Doesn't Make Any Sense Grogu's backstory has been pieced together in tiny fragments more and more ever since The Mandalorian season 1, but now that three whole seasons and a bonus half-season in The Book of Boba Fett have come out, there's still no clear answer on why Grogu was with the Niktos on Arvala-7. There's still such a big gap of time in Grogu's backstory between Order 66 and when he was found in The Mandalorian season 1, episode 1, and nothing has explained why Grogu was there. Not only was Grogu there, but he was also hidden under a netting of some sort, and was only being protected by one person inside the actual building. Did they even know how valuable he is?
